Dean Dr. Christos G. Karagiannis, Associate Professor

The Dean of the School of Theology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Associate Professor Dr. Christos G. Karagiannis, was born in Athens, Greece in 1969. He holds a B.A. from the Faculty of Theology of the aforementioned university (1992). Next, he completed a Master of Theology (MTh) with distinction at the University of Aberdeen (UK). Due to his later achievement, he received a scholarship from the Gilroy Royal Scholarship Foundation (1996).

    Between the years 1997 and 1999 he visited Germany (University of Tübingen) for the purpose of research related to doctoral studies. From 1999 to 2007 he was employed by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece (Publications). In 2004 he obtained his PhD title from the Faculty of Theology of the National and kapodistrian University of Athens. In 2006 he became a Lecturer in the said Faculty in the field of “History and Archaeology of the Old Testament”.

    Since September 2007 he has been teaching at the Faculty of Theology, where, in December 2012, he was appointed as Assistant Professor and, in November 2019, as Associate Professor in the field of “Old Testament”. He has participated in a series of archaeological missions to Israel with a focus on Caesarea Philippi (Banias) and ancient Magdala.

    For nearly a decade (2010-2020) he has contributed in the Internship programme for undergraduate students of the Faculty of Theology as its Academic Coordinator, and since 2018, he has been Academic Coordinator of the Short Courses programme, with religious and cultural thematic content.

    In April 2018 he was elected member of the Steering Committee of the Special Account for Research Grants of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

    By order of the University Senate (12-11-20219) of the the said university, he was appointed member of the Steering Committee of its Centre of Excellence for Digital Heritage. Also by order of the Senate (13-02-2020), he was appointed member of the Βoard of Directors of the Corporation for the Management and Development of the Holdings of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

    He is the author of several academic publications and scientific papers, and he has participated as a keynote speaker in many conferences and related academic events in Greece and abroad.

    Dr. Christos G. Karagianis currently teaches in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the Faculty of Theology of the National and Kapodistrian Universisty of Athens a series of high-profile courses related to his field of expertise.
